Day 58 - Bergen (37 kms) - "Epic Complete" !

After 2,000+ kms across 7 countries our cycling component of our 2015 trip came to an end today as we entered the historic centre of Bergen Norway.

The 600 km segment from Oslo to Bergen provided a stunning conclusion to our trip with sections containing some of the best scenery I have seen anywhere in the world ! The day ride from Finse to Flam coupled with the ferry ride to Gundervagen provided lifetime memories of astonishing scenery !

Our last day started in warm conditions as in almost military precision ( i said almost !) we left our Fusa Camping Cabin - me chasing the flying Dane and H still half dressed chasing me !

A short ferry crossing and some on road cycling soon put us on a cycle path following alongside the E39 main route to Bergen making for our least spectacular days riding in Norway other than for a 200 metre climb !

After stopping at the top of that climb for some sustenance it was a downhill all the way into Bergen - made a little complicated by the absence of cycle signs and paths.

Approaching Bergen we followed D Mike with his GPS in overdrive as we zig and zagged between lanes following the erratic one way down town traffic system.

Finally D Mike pulled over at the harbour opposite the old style warehouses of Bergen to signal that after 8 days our trip was finally over !

With some back slapping and a well timed punch by H (see pic) we celebrated our effort - H by almost immediately falling asleep and D Mike by throwing his head into his hands to signify that he would rather prefer brain surgery than lead another group of Aussies on a cycling trip !

After we woke up H it was a short walk to our nearby accommodation well placed in downtown Bergen.

A rest was followed by a good walk out to the peninsular to see the Nth Sea / Atlantic. In the evening we headed out for dinner to reflect on the highs on the trip while considering how we could skip paying for dinner in this pretty pricey Chinese restaurant in downtown Bergen.

For H and self, tomorrow provides a challenge of another day, picking up our hire car and driving back into Bergen to pack both bikes and equipment before spending a further week touring Norway.

For D Mike he's out for another long day training it back to Oslo then driving 6 long hours back to Copenhagen !

Thx D Mike !

The Blog will continue !
